Background

The Children’s Wellbeing Collective supported the development of the first Wellbeing report for children and young people in East Gippsland released in early 2014.

The report was developed by Good Beginnings who consulted across the community to identify 24 indicators of wellbeing for children and young people. There was long-term vision and support by the Collective for the report to inspire partnership work, along with a commitment from Good Beginnings to support local actions (and then this commitment followed to Save the Children when they merged in 2015). This translated into the emergence of the Children’s Wellbeing Initiative (CWI) as the facilitator or the backbone for work inspired by collective impact models.

CWI in partnership with the partners in the Children’s Wellbeing Collective, hosted a community forum in August 2015, this along with other community conversations helped to identify the priorities for the Children’s Wellbeing Collective & Initiative. Reviewing risk and protective factors for children and young people, the data from the wellbeing report and community feedback, five priority areas were identified:

1. Children with Additional Needs

2. Children’s Social & Emotional Wellbeing

3. Family Violence Prevention

4. Substance Use Prevention

5. Service Access

5 Year Strategic Plan

The Children with Additional Needs Working Group (CWANWG) has developed a Five Year Framework, which is the local plan with a strategic view of the key outcomes for addressing the challenges and opportunities for children with additional needs in East Gippsland.

This Framework builds on the CWANWG Action Plan (2018-2020) through a review of the Objectives, the Terms of Reference, the Action Plan and incorporates data which the group have collected over the past two years to further build and enhance the opportunities for families and carers of children with additional needs and of course the children themselves. The 5 year strategic plan sets out the objectives for the CWANWG to achieve the outcomes identified in the program logic for the Children’s Wellbeing Collective.
